EDITORS COMMENTS
Helenus, the enigmatic Trojan prince and renowned soothsayer, is depicted in this print. Born to King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy, Helenus was destined for a life far removed from the ordinary. As a son of the royal house, he was expected to follow in his father's footsteps and rule as a king. However, his extraordinary gift for interpreting the signs of the gods set him apart, and he became the city's primary oracle and interpreter of divine will. Helenus's paranormal abilities were put to the test during the Trojan War, as he played a pivotal role in foretelling the fates of many of the war's most significant figures. He warned his brother Hector of his impending death at the hands of Achilles, and later counseled Aeneas, the legendary Trojan hero, to leave Troy and found a new city in Italy. Despite his prophetic powers, Helenus could not prevent the fall of Troy. After the city's defeat, he left for Epirus, a region in northwestern Greece, where he was welcomed as a king. There, he ruled with wisdom and justice, using his divine insight to guide his people and ensure their prosperity. This evocative print captures the essence of Helenus, the Trojan soothsayer, as he sits in contemplative repose, his eyes fixed on the distant horizon. The swirling clouds and turbulent waters of the background reflect the uncertainties and mysteries of the future, while the calm, resolute expression on his face speaks of the unwavering faith and wisdom that guided him through a life filled with trials and tribulations. Helenus's story is a testament to the power of divination and the enduring influence of the ancient world on our collective imagination. This print serves as a reminder of the rich history and mythology that continue to shape our understanding of the past and inspire our dreams for the future.
