Six Gents sitting beside Porch of the Caryatids, Acropolis
Six Gents sitting beside the Porch of the Caryatids at the Erechtheion or Erechtheum - an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon. The famous " Porch of the Maidens", was built to conceal the giant 15-ft beam needed to support the southwest corner over the Kekropion, after the building was drastically reduced in size (and budget!) following the start of the Peloponnesian war. Date: circa 1920s

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, six gentlemen are seen seated leisurely beside the Porch of the Caryatids at the Erechtheion or Erechtheum, located on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The ancient Greek temple, dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon, dates back to the 5th century BC. The famous "Porch of the Maidens" was constructed to conceal the giant 15-ft beam required to support the southwest corner of the temple after its size and budget were drastically reduced following the start of the Peloponnesian War. The gentlemen, dressed in suits and hats, appear to be taking a break from their explorations of the ancient ruins. They sit on the steps leading up to the Porch, their backs resting against the intricately carved columns of the colonnade. The Caryatids, the six female figures serving as columns, gaze down at the scene below, their draped robes flowing gracefully. The statues, each unique in expression and pose, are a testament to the masterful craftsmanship of ancient Greek sculptors. The Porch of the Caryatids is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to marvel at the ancient ruins and the beauty of the Caryatids. The gentlemen in the photograph seem to be no exception, their faces reflecting a sense of awe and wonder as they take in the breathtaking sight. The photograph, taken in the 1920s, captures a moment in time when the past and the present intertwine, offering a glimpse into the rich history and culture of ancient Greece.
