In this and thought-provoking print titled "Fable of Cupid and Death" we are transported back to the year 1665, where artist Dirk Stoop and writer John Ogilby bring to life a mesmerizing tale. The image depicts an enchanting scene filled with symbolism and allegory. At the center, we see the mischievous figure of Cupid, known as Amor Eros in Greek mythology, surrounded by a group of dancers joyfully swaying to music. However, what catches our attention is the unexpected twist: Cupid has swapped his usual arrows of love for weapons of death. As if guided by some dark force, Cupid takes aim at old people who continue dancing merrily in a circle around him. With each shot from his deadly bow, they drop dead instantly while their youthful counterparts remain unharmed.
