HMS Richmond with Dutch NH-90 Helicopter
A Dutch NH-90 helicopter from HNLMS Amsterdam hovers beside Royal Navy type 23 frigate HMS Richmond during an exercise.
HMS Richmond is among the most tried and tested in the Fleet, having pounded Saddam Husseins defences on the Al Faw peninsula in the opening hours of the 2003 Iraq campaign, to providing vital aid in the Caribbean after Hurricane Ivan the tenth strongest storm in history steamrollered through a succession of islands in 2004.
HMS Richmond has had a busy year so far.
Setting sail in early February following a brief maintenance period in Portsmouth, the Ships Company put trainee submariners through their paces off the west coast of Norway whilst taking part in the gruelling multi-national Submarine Command Course

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures a remarkable moment between the HMS Richmond and a Dutch NH-90 helicopter during an exercise. The Royal Navy type 23 frigate, HMS Richmond, has proven its mettle time and again. From relentlessly pounding Saddam Hussein's defenses on the Al Faw peninsula during the initial hours of the 2003 Iraq campaign to providing crucial aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, one of history's most powerful storms that ravaged several islands in 2004. This year has been no different for HMS Richmond as it embarked on yet another eventful journey. After a brief maintenance period in Portsmouth, the ship set sail in early February with its dedicated crew ready to face new challenges. Off the west coast of Norway, they put trainee submariners through their paces as part of a grueling multi-national Submarine Command Course. In this particular image, we witness an impressive display of cooperation between nations as a Dutch NH-90 helicopter hovers beside HMS Richmond. This collaboration exemplifies the strong bonds forged among allied forces within armed services worldwide. The photograph serves as a testament to both naval prowess and international unity. It symbolizes not only military strength but also collective determination to safeguard peace and security across borders.
