The purpose of this grand event was to honor the coronation of King George VI, and it saw an impressive gathering of 160 ships from various nations. The proof copy of this promotional poster was created by Southern Railway (SR) to encourage rail services to Spithead during this remarkable occasion. The artwork for this piece was skillfully crafted by Charles Shep Shepherd, a talented artist who studied under Paul Woodroffe and served as head of the studio at Baynard Press. Shepherd's artistic prowess shines through in his design, which not only captures the magnitude and splendor of the assembled fleet but also showcases his versatility as he had previously designed posters for other esteemed entities like Royal Mail Packet Steam Company and London Transport.
