Rick Wright (Cardiff City owner) Chairman of Majestic Holidays helps the Mayor of Barry

Rick Wright (Cardiff City owner) Chairman of Majestic Holidays helps the Mayor of Barry, Mrs Dorothy Rees (left) and the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Mrs Evelyn Lloyd (right) to cut the tape opening the Majestic Holiday Camp - *ONE of the last things Rick Wright ever did was give a huge smile after learning that Cardiff City were still top of the league. It was, said his daughter, the only place the former owner ever accepted the club being. Wright, chairman from 1992 until 1995, died aged 81 in Brisbane, Australia, yesterday 12 days after suffering a stroke. During his time at the Bluebirdshelm he became a club legend alongside manager Eddie May, who passed away in his sleep aged 68 earlier this year. Wright daughter, Martine Leben, said he had been fragile for the past nine months after a stroke in March. June 1987

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a momentous occasion as Rick Wright, the esteemed Chairman of Majestic Holidays and Cardiff City owner, joins forces with the Mayor of Barry, Mrs Dorothy Rees, and the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Mrs Evelyn Lloyd. Together they ceremoniously cut the tape to mark the grand opening of the Majestic Holiday Camp. Little did anyone know that this would be one of Rick Wright's final acts before his passing. A man deeply devoted to Cardiff City Football Club, he wore a radiant smile upon learning that his beloved team still reigned at the top of their league. His daughter Martine Leben fondly remembers how this was perhaps one of few instances where her father accepted anything less than perfection from his cherished club. Rick Wright's legacy extends far beyond this joyful moment captured in time. Serving as chairman from 1992 until 1995, he etched himself into Bluebirds history alongside manager Eddie May. Their combined efforts transformed them into legends within Cardiff City's storied past. Sadly, just twelve days after suffering a stroke at age 81 in Brisbane, Australia - where he resided - Rick Wright passed away. Fragile for several months following an earlier stroke in March that year; his departure left behind a void felt by many who admired him. As we reflect on this poignant image from June 1987 and its accompanying story, let us remember Rick Wright not only for his contributions to football but also for his infectious passion and unwavering dedication to both community and sport alike.
