EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking memorial bronze relief of Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) is located on the west wall of the Moray Aisle in St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, Scotland. The work was created by renowned American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1904. In the relief, Stevenson is depicted on a couch or day bed, reflecting his frequent confinement due to poor health. The Scottish author and writer found solace in Samoa, where he settled in 1890 and passed away four years later. The intricately detailed bronze relief captures the essence of Stevenson's literary genius and his connection to his Scottish heritage. The Moray Aisle, with its beautiful stained glass windows and ornate carvings, provides a fitting setting for this poignant tribute to one of Scotland's most celebrated literary figures.
