A Pearl of Beauty: Anne, Countess of Rosse, Radiates Elegance in Cecil Beaton's 1930 Portrait for The Sketch This photograph, titled "A Pearl of Beauty," features Anne, Countess of Rosse (later Parsons), as she gracefully poses for renowned photographer Cecil Beaton in 1930. The Countess, then known as Mrs. Ronald Armstrong-Jones, was the sister of the acclaimed designer Oliver Messel, who created the stunning costume she wears in this portrait. Anne's previous marriage to Ronald Armstrong-Jones produced two children, a daughter and a son, Antony Armstrong-Jones, who would later become the Earl of Snowdon and famously marry Princess Margaret. Following her divorce from Ronald, Anne married Michael Parsons, 6th Earl of Rosse on September 19, 1935. Together, they welcomed two sons. The Countess's alluring ensemble, designed by her brother Oliver, includes an intricately beaded headdress and a gown adorned with pearls, which perfectly complement her timeless beauty. The photograph, published in The Sketch, showcases Anne's sophistication and elegance, making it a truly iconic portrait from the golden age of society portraits. Cecil Beaton, a celebrated photographer of the era, masterfully captures the Countess's enchanting presence, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of fashion and portrait photography history.
