In the heart of Portugal, in the small village of Fatima, the lives of three young shepherd children - Lucia dos Santos, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto - were forever changed by an extraordinary series of events in 1917. This evocative photograph captures the solemn and innocent faces of the visionaries, who at the tender ages of 10, 9, and 7, reported witnessing apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The first apparition occurred on May 13, 1917, and continued until October 13 of that year. During these appearances, the Virgin Mary revealed prophetic messages and performed miracles, including the famous "Miracle of the Sun," which was witnessed by an estimated 70,000 people. The children's accounts of their experiences were met with skepticism and persecution from local authorities, who saw their visions as a threat to the established religious order. Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were taken into custody and subjected to harsh conditions, but their faith remained unwavering.
