EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite "Design Rock-work Virginia Water Windsor Great Park" by Artokoloro. The artwork, created in the 1780s using pen, grey ink, wash, graphite on laid paper, measures approximately 5 1/16 x 6 9/16 inches (128 x 166 cm). The drawing was skillfully crafted by Thomas Sandby, a British artist baptized in Nottingham in 1723 and passed away in Windsor in 1798. Sandby's brother Paul was also an influential figure who greatly impacted his early development as an artist. Notably, Thomas Sandby played a significant role in shaping the British watercolor practice and was appointed as the first professor of architecture at the Royal Academy. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Sandby worked as a deputy ranger and architect for King George III. His works were highly regarded during his time and continue to be admired today for their exceptional detail and precision. This particular piece captures the stunning rock formations found at Virginia Water within Windsor Great Park. The intricate design work beautifully depicts nature's raw beauty while showcasing Sandby's remarkable talent for capturing realism through various artistic techniques. Art enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate this extraordinary print that exemplifies both historical significance and artistic brilliance.
