"Ragged Tooth: The Mighty Grey Nurse Shark" Discover the formidable jaw of the Grey Nurse Shark, its teeth perfectly evolved to catch fish with precision. With their triangular shape, these sharks hold potential danger for those who encounter them along the East Coast of Australia. Also known as Ragged-tooth or Sand Tiger Sharks, this species goes by various scientific names including Eugomphodus taurus/arenarius or Odontaspis taurus/arenarius. Their distribution spans across the Western and Eastern Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Western Pacific, Mediterranean, and even the Black Sea. There is some disagreement over classification due to similarities with other shark species such as Sand Sharks. Captured in stunning photographs (_DSC0996), (_DSC1019), and (_DSC0980), these images showcase the unique features that make them distinct from other sharks. Interestingly enough, Grey Nurse Sharks peacefully coexist with Mados in their shared habitat off Seal Rocks in New South Wales. These fearless fish do not fear their shark neighbor (GNS-024). During daylight hours, Grey Nurse Sharks remain inactive but can often be found seeking refuge in caves (GNS-019). They hunt under cover of darkness when they come alive and venture out into open waters (GNS-020). Get up close and personal with a dramatic shot capturing the awe-inspiring teeth of a Grey Nurse Shark underwater (GNS-015). Witness an entire school of these majestic creatures drifting just above sandy sea floors while maintaining neutral buoyancy through gas-filled stomachs (GNS-014). For an even more intimate view, marvel at a very close-up shot highlighting every detail of a Grey Nurse's teeth (GNS-011). These captivating creatures truly embody strength and beauty as they navigate through Australian waters.
