The Welsh mountain of Yr Wydffa (Mount Snowdon in English), is 1085 metres high, and is the tallest mountain in England and Wales. John Glover specialised in pictures of dramatic landscapes, generally bathed in a glow of golden light. His work was also influenced by the Sublime landscape style, in which artists responded to the awe-inspiring qualities of rocky landscape and hillside peaks. In this watercolour, Glover chose his viewpoint to create a traditionally composed and balanced picture, with the meandering stream tracing a zig-zag movement into the distance. The bluish colouring of the hills and inked details are typical of John Glovers technique. He emigrated to Tasmania in 1830.); Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning watercolour print by John Glover captures the breathtaking beauty of Capel Currig, Wales, with a magnificent view of Mount Snowdon in the background. Painted between 1793 and 1830, this artwork showcases Glover's expertise in depicting dramatic landscapes illuminated by a warm golden light. Influenced by the Sublime landscape style, he aimed to convey the awe-inspiring qualities of rocky terrains and towering peaks. Standing at an impressive height of 1085 metres, Mount Snowdon is not only the tallest mountain in Wales but also in England. In this composition, Glover carefully selected his viewpoint to create a harmoniously balanced picture. The meandering stream adds depth and movement as it winds its way into the distance.
