Heron Island is a stunning coral cay situated in the Southern Great Barrier Reef of Australia, just 80 kilometres (50 miles) north-east of Gladstone and 460 km (290 mi) north-north-west of the state capital Brisbane, Australia. Only a small island at about 800 metres long and 300 metres at its widest, with its highest point, near the western tip, is 3.6 metres above sea level.
