Nathaniel Dance-Holland Photo Mug Collection

Nathaniel Dance-Holland was an 18th century English portrait painter and one of the most important members of the Royal Academy. He was born in London in 1735 and studied under his father, a noted engraver. His early works were mainly portraits of royalty, nobility and other notable figures from the period. He went on to become a successful portraitist, painting many leading figures including George III, Queen Charlotte and Lord Nelson. In 1768 he was elected to the Royal Academy where he served as President from 1795 until his death in 1811. His work is characterised by its fine draughtsmanship and attention to detail which earned him great respect among his peers. He is remembered today for his contribution to British portraiture during this period as well as for being one of the first artists to be elected into the Royal Academy.
