Image processing. A member of the Voyager Mission imaging team processes data from the Voyager 2 spacecraft to produce a full-colour image of the planet Neptune. The picture shows the planets Great Dark Spot. The woman is working in the Multimission Image Processing Laboratory of NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. Launched in 1977, the two Voyager craft acquired tens of thousands of images & a vast amount of scientific data from close encounters with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune & their satellites. Computer image processing was a vital element in the production of the spectacular Voyager images. Womans name is DANETTE KLEIN. Photo taken August 1989 during Neptune encounter

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a pivotal moment in the history of space exploration. In the Multimission Image Processing Laboratory at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, we see a dedicated woman named Danette Klein engrossed in processing data from the Voyager 2 spacecraft. It is August 1989, and Neptune is the subject of her meticulous work. As a member of the Voyager Mission imaging team, Klein plays an integral role in transforming raw data into a breathtaking full-color image of Neptune. The picture showcases one of Neptune's most intriguing features - the Great Dark Spot. This enigmatic phenomenon has long fascinated astronomers and scientists alike. The Voyager mission itself has been nothing short of extraordinary. Launched back in 1977, both Voyager spacecraft have amassed tens of thousands of images and an immense amount of scientific data during their close encounters with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and their respective satellites. In this particular snapshot from history, we witness how computer image processing was crucial to producing these awe-inspiring visuals that have captivated people around the world. Thanks to individuals like Danette Klein and her colleagues at JPL's Multimission Image Processing Laboratory, humanity gains deeper insights into our vast universe through stunning imagery. This remarkable photograph serves as a testament to human ingenuity and our unquenchable thirst for knowledge about distant celestial bodies like Neptune.
