Enhanced image of Triceratops dinosaur skulls

Triceratops. Computer enhanced image of fossilised skulls of a Triceratops dinosaur. Triceratops (" three-horned face" ) was a herbivore that had skulls which were up to 2 metres long. The skull was this dinosaurs main defence against predators due to the three horns (2 over the eye sockets and one on the nose), and a bony frill that protected the neck. This powerful and heavily-built dinosaur was a formidable opponent for any predator. The frill had slots where large muscles for powering the creatures beak-like jaw were attached. Triceratops evolved only a few million years before dinosaurs became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period (about 65 million years ago)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an enhanced image of Triceratops dinosaur skulls, offering a glimpse into the fascinating world of paleontology. The Triceratops, known as the "three-horned face" was a herbivore with impressively long skulls measuring up to 2 meters in length. These skulls served as its primary defense against predators, boasting three formidable horns - two positioned over the eye sockets and one on the nose. Additionally, a bony frill protected its neck from potential threats. The sheer power and robust build of this dinosaur made it an intimidating opponent for any predator that dared to challenge it. Notably, the frill featured slots where large muscles were attached to empower the creature's beak-like jaw. This unique adaptation allowed Triceratops to exert tremendous force while feeding or defending itself. Triceratops emerged just a few million years before dinosaurs faced extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period approximately 65 million years ago. This remarkable artwork not only highlights their physical attributes but also serves as a reminder of Earth's ancient history and evolution. Displayed by Science Photo Library, this print captures both scientific accuracy and artistic beauty in portraying these magnificent creatures that once roamed our planet millions of years ago.
