EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the iconic de Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth, registration G-ARAZ (msn 82867), in its prime during the 1960s at Kidlington. The Tiger Moth, a classic biplane trainer aircraft, gained popularity for its distinctive striped camouflage and powerful de Havilland Gipsy Major engine. Originally built as R4959 for the Tiger Club, a flying school based in the United Kingdom, this Tiger Moth was one of over 7,000 produced between 1932 and 1952. The Tiger Club was renowned for its fleet of Tiger Moths, which provided flying training to thousands of pilots, including many who went on to serve in the Royal Air Force during World War II. In this image, the Tiger Moth is captured in its element, with its wings spread wide and the sun casting an inviting glow on its metallic surfaces. The grassy runway at Kidlington Airfield stretches out behind the aircraft, adding to the sense of adventure and freedom that comes with flying. The Tiger Moth's timeless design and enduring appeal continue to captivate aviation enthusiasts and pilots alike, making this photograph a must-have for any aviation collection.
