Born in Paris, Tissandier was an accomplished journalist, illustrator, aviator, and inventor, who left an indelible mark on various fields during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A brother to the renowned aviator Gaston Tissandier, Albert's diverse talents were showcased in numerous publications, including the prestigious "Le Figaro" and "La Vie Parisienne." He was a prolific illustrator, contributing to over 1,500 publications, and his work graced the pages of numerous magazines and books. However, Tissandier's greatest achievements came in the realm of aviation and invention. In 1890, he became the first person to fly a hydroplane, a remarkable feat that took place on the Seine River. His design for a hydroplane, which utilized a pontoon system, was a significant step forward in the development of waterborne aircraft. Moreover, Tissandier was a pioneer in the field of aerial photography. He designed and built a camera specifically for aerial photography, which he mounted on a hot air balloon. His pioneering aerial photographs provided a unique perspective on the world and captured the imagination of the public. Tissandier's inventive spirit extended beyond aviation. He is credited with inventing the first electric typewriter, which he patented in 1870. His tireless curiosity and innovative mind led him to explore various fields, leaving a lasting impact on the world.
