Paul Revere was an American silversmith and patriot who played a major role in the American Revolution. He is best known for his midnight ride to warn the colonists of an impending British attack, which helped spark the Revolutionary War. Revere was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 21, 1734. He worked as a silversmith and engraver, creating items such as silverware and coins. In addition to his work as a craftsman, he also served in the militia during the French and Indian War. During this time he became involved with revolutionary activities such as organizing protests against British taxes. His most famous accomplishment came on April 18th 1775 when he rode from Boston to Lexington warning colonists of an impending British attack; this event has become known as "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere".
