EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, Katie Chapman of Arsenal Ladies proudly holds aloft the FA Community Shield following her team's impressive 3:0 victory over Everton on August 2, 2006. The FA Community Shield is a traditional curtain-raiser to the new football season, with the winners of the previous season's FA Cup and League title competing against each other. On this occasion, Arsenal Ladies, who had won the FA Women's Premier League title the previous season, faced Everton, who had triumphed in the FA Women's Cup. The match was played at Gresty Road in Crewe, with Arsenal Ladies dominating the game from the outset. Chapman opened the scoring in the first half, before adding a second goal later in the game. Kelly Smith sealed the victory with a third goal in stoppage time. The triumphant Arsenal Ladies team celebrated their victory with their fans, who had turned out in large numbers to support their team. Chapman, who had joined Arsenal Ladies in 2004, was a key player for the team and played a crucial role in their success. Her goalscoring ability and creative midfield play were instrumental in Arsenal Ladies' dominance of women's football in England during the early 2000s. This photograph captures a moment of triumph and joy for Chapman and her teammates, as they celebrate their hard-fought victory and look forward to the challenges of the new season ahead. The FA Community Shield was just the beginning of an exciting and successful campaign for Arsenal Ladies, who went on to win the FA Women's Premier League title once again in 2006-07.
