This photograph captures the majestic No. 111, The Great Bear, in its prime at Paddington Station around the year 1910. The locomotive, a 4-6-2 Pacific type, was built in 1908 and named after the constellation of the Great Bear, a fitting moniker for its impressive size and power. The Great Bear was a marvel of engineering, its sleek lines and polished metal gleaming in the station's dimly lit environment. The steam engine, with its large driving wheels and powerful cylinders, was a sight to behold as it prepared to depart on its next journey. The thick plumes of steam billowing from its stack added to the sense of raw power and motion.
