A revolution was started by pupils of Mirfield High School this morning

A revolution was started by pupils of Mirfield High School this morning. And they were given full support by the teaching staff, for the 50 or so pupils were re-living the storming of the Bastille in 1789 as part of a special Bastille Day organised by the schools French department. Some even lost their heads on a guillotine, specially made by the craft department - fortunately, however, the victims were only paper mache models. Pictured:- French-dressing, Mirfield-style, with, from left: Paula Hardcastle, Sharon Senior, Clare Hardy and Michelle Lee. 14th July 1986

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the birth of a revolution at Mirfield High School. The pupils, fueled by their passion for history and guided by the supportive teaching staff, embarked on an extraordinary journey back to 1789 - the year when the storming of the Bastille ignited a wave of change in France. As part of a special Bastille Day celebration organized by the school's French department, around 50 students enthusiastically recreated this pivotal moment in history. With meticulous attention to detail, they constructed a guillotine from scratch in the craft department and prepared paper mache models that would symbolize those who lost their lives during this tumultuous time. The photograph captures four girls dressed impeccably in French attire with an unmistakable touch of Mirfield-style. Paula Hardcastle, Sharon Senior, Clare Hardy, and Michelle Lee exude both excitement and determination as they immerse themselves fully into their roles. This image serves as a reminder not only of these young minds' dedication to learning but also highlights how education can be brought to life through immersive experiences. It is evident that Mirfield High School values hands-on learning opportunities that allow students to engage with historical events beyond textbooks. As we delve into all our yesterdays through such photographs, we are reminded of how education shapes us and sparks our curiosity about different cultures and times gone by.
