Very quietly, the worlds first flying Saucer, or Skyship as its designers prefer to call it, eased itself into the air, and science fiction became science fact. Whats more its British, conceived by Mr. John West, and his firm Ð John West Design Associates of Epsom, Surrey who have worked on the project for more than two years.
The 30-foot saucer took off near Bedford to notch a first for British aviation.
The setting for the radio-controlled, unmanned flight was the Royal Aircraft establishment hangar at RAF Cardington fomerly the Royal Airship Works, built to house the ill-fated R101 Airship.
