EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative image captures the mystical moment when Saint Therese of Lisieux, also known as the "Little Flower," experienced a divine vision of roses falling from the heavens onto St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The vision took place between 1873 and 1897 during a pivotal period in Therese's spiritual journey. Born in Alençon, France, in 1873, Therese was a Carmelite nun who became renowned for her deep faith, childlike devotion, and simple yet profound writings. In her twenties, she began experiencing a series of spiritual revelations that would shape the remainder of her life. One of the most memorable visions occurred while she was in Rome on a pilgrimage, where she saw a shower of roses raining down from the sky and landing on the roof of St. Peter's Basilica. The vision of the roses was interpreted by Therese as a sign of God's love and approval of her spiritual path. She wrote in her autobiography, "Story of a Soul," that the roses represented her own soul, which was "little and poor, but wholly given over to the divine pleasure." This vision strengthened her resolve to dedicate her life entirely to God and inspired her to spread the message of God's love to all people. This photograph, taken during the late 19th century, offers a glimpse into the rich history of Saint Therese of Lisieux and her profound spiritual experiences. The image of the falling roses on St. Peter's Basilica continues to resonate with people around the world, reminding us of the transformative power of faith and the beauty of God's love.
