This is a magnificent action image from days gone bye of two stage coaches at the " The Green" in the village of Erdington, near Birmingham. The old workhouse is one of the buildings that can be identified in the picture, later demolished to make way for the Erdington Public Library. The coaching route ran from Lichfield to Birmingham passing through Sutton Coldfield and Erdington, skirting Aston and then on to Birmingham, each coach having to pass through many " Toll Gates" on the way. One of the tolls was at the Green in Erdington. This image has been re-mastered from a rare original print and set in a title frame by Mapseeker
