Launch of Shuttle Mission STS-50. Space Shuttle Columbia thunders into the air at the start of Mission STS-50 on 25 June 1992. This was the first flight of Columbia after being converted as an Extended Duration Orbiter (EDO). STS-50 set a Shuttle endurance record of almost 14 days, carrying the US Microgravity Laboratory (USML) in its payload bay. STS-50 landed at Kennedy Space Center on 9 July 1992
