Deighton School Delivers the Goods - Charity Fever Takes Hold

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from 15th November 1985, we witness the incredible efforts of Deighton High School's 700 pupils and staff as they transform fundraising for the Band Aid appeal into a thriving mini business. Led by their dedicated aid organiser, Mr Gary Wilson, who also serves as the teacher in charge of multi-cultural education, this school community is raising an average of £100 every week. Since the summer holidays, these compassionate individuals have collected an astounding third of a tonne of food and raised £1,000 to support those in need. Their next ambitious endeavor involves participating in Band Aid's newly launched twinning scheme. British schools will now join forces with orphanages and children's communities in Africa to provide financial assistance along with books and toys. The funds currently being raised are earmarked for this noble twinning initiative. To achieve their goals, Deighton High School has organized various exciting fundraising events such as sponsored silences, break-dancing displays, raffles, talent competitions, and even tuck shops. The commitment displayed by everyone involved is truly inspiring. Notably captured within this photograph are five remarkable students - Mandy Tompkin, Debbie Scott, Samantha Alexander, Sarbjit Kaur, and Sally Benner - who have been actively contributing to this heartfelt appeal. As they proudly stand together after reaching the impressive milestone of £1,000 raised thus far; their determination shines through brightly. This image serves as a timeless reminder that when a community comes together for a worthy cause like helping others across borders and cultures – miracles can happen!
