EDITORS COMMENTS
In this stunning photograph, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, later Duchess of Kent, is depicted in elegant grace and poise at the age of just seventeen in 1933. The princess, born on November 26, 1906, in Athens, Greece, was the eldest daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg. Raised in exile in France following the Greco-Turkish War, Marina's royal lineage boasted a rich and illustrious history, with connections to the British, Danish, Russian, and German royal families. The image captures the young princess in a simple yet elegant white blouse and a long, flowing skirt, her dark hair styled in soft waves that cascade down her shoulders. Her expressive eyes gaze directly at the camera, exuding a sense of confidence and maturity beyond her years. Princess Marina's life was marked by a series of significant events, most notably her marriage to Prince George, Duke of Kent, on November 29, 1934. The union brought her into the British royal family, and she became the mother of three children: Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent, and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. This photograph, taken in the years preceding her marriage, offers a glimpse into the life of a young royal on the cusp of her future role as a beloved member of the British monarchy. The image, captured by the renowned Illustrated London News Ltd, serves as a testament to the timeless beauty and elegance of Princess Marina, who passed away on August 18, 1968, at the age of sixty-one.
