This photograph captures the legendary Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl (1914-2002) and his beloved wife Jacqueline, basking in the warm sun of their home in Tenerife, Canary Islands, in 1995. The 90s were a period of relaxation and reflection for the intrepid adventurer, who had recently retired from his groundbreaking expeditions. Heyerdahl's most famous voyage was the Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, where he sailed a balsa wood raft from South America to the Polynesian islands, proving that ancient peoples could have reached the Pacific via the Eastern route.
