The image captures the moment as a young Captain Gilbert Holiday, a native of St. Johns Wood, watches from his window as a long line of horses are led down the street. Holiday's early life was steeped in the world of horses, with the Royal Horse Artillery providing his first introduction to these magnificent animals. Born in 1879, Holiday received his education at Westminster and went on to study at the Royal Academy Schools. He later worked as an illustrator for various publications, including The Graphic, The Tatler, and The Illustrated London News.
