EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic Fulham Church, standing proudly on the north bank of the River Thames in London. The image, taken around 1878 by an unknown creator, showcases All Saints Church in its gothic perpendicular style. A fascinating piece of architectural history unfolds as we learn that this church was rebuilt in the 1880s to prevent flooding from the river. The new structure was constructed three feet higher than its medieval predecessor, with only the tower remaining from the original 15th-century building. The photograph is sourced from "Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, And Its Places". Volume VI by Edward Walford. Published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co. , this publication offers a comprehensive account of London's past. As we gaze upon this monochrome masterpiece, we are transported back to a time when cinematography was still emerging and moving pictures were yet to be realized. This image serves as a testament to both England's rich religious heritage and its ever-changing landscape along one of its most iconic geographical features - the River Thames. With every intricate detail captured within this frame - from the towering spires reaching towards heaven to the serene waters flowing beneath - it reminds us of our connection to history and how architecture can withstand centuries while evolving with each passing era.
