This print showcases a collection of wood engravings from 1897, featuring an array of beautiful shorebirds belonging to the Charadriiformes order. On the left side, we are treated to the sight of five distinct species. First is the Ruff, also known as Calidris pugnax or Machetes pugnax, with its elegant plumage and distinctive courtship display. Next is the Swamphen, identified as Porphyrio porphyrio or Porphyrio veterum, displaying its vibrant colors against a lush background. The Eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) follows suit with its long bill and camouflaged feathers perfectly suited for woodland habitats. Alongside it stands the Eurasian coot (Fulica atra), showcasing its unique black plumage and white beak.
