Mr Edward Murphy took music lessons at Sacred Heart RC Secondary School in Redcar

Mr Edward Murphy took music lessons at Sacred Heart RC Secondary School in Redcar. He accompanied the school choir and orchestra, and he had a thoroughly typical school dinner. In fact the only thing worth noting was that he played the piano continuously for 12 hours and raised £ 200 in sponsorship money. It was all part of the school bazaar which raised a total of £ 900 - more than enough to pay for the new computer which the school has on order. 14th July 1981

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a remarkable moment in the life of Mr Edward Murphy, a talented musician and former student at Sacred Heart RC Secondary School in Redcar. In this snapshot from 14th July 1981, we see Mr Murphy engrossed in his passion for music as he accompanies the school choir and orchestra. However, what sets this particular event apart is Mr Murphy's extraordinary feat of playing the piano continuously for an astounding 12 hours. His dedication paid off handsomely as he managed to raise an impressive £200 in sponsorship money during this marathon performance. The occasion responsible for such musical prowess was none other than the school bazaar, which aimed to raise funds for various initiatives. This year's bazaar proved to be a resounding success, with a total sum of £900 collected – more than enough to cover the cost of a new computer that had been eagerly awaited by both students and faculty alike. This heartwarming image not only showcases Mr Edward Murphy's exceptional talent but also highlights the spirit of community and support within Sacred Heart RC Secondary School during that era. It serves as a testament to the power of music education and fundraising efforts in shaping young minds while fostering unity among pupils. As we delve into this nostalgic piece from Memory Lane Prints, we are reminded of how moments like these can leave indelible imprints on our lives – forever cherished and celebrated.
