EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of community and environmental consciousness as Marsden school children diligently work on a river project. As part of the Riverwatch scheme, schools from the Colne Valley united to tackle pollution and study animal life in their local river. From nursery to high school, these young minds eagerly participated in this hands-on learning experience. In this particular snapshot, we see nursery teacher Mrs Pam Jones leading her enthusiastic pupils from Marsden Infants School at the pack horse bridge in the village. The date is etched into history - 1st July 1990 - marking a significant moment when these children actively contributed towards preserving their natural surroundings. The image evokes nostalgia for a time when education went beyond textbooks and classrooms, emphasizing experiential learning that fostered an appreciation for nature's wonders. It serves as a reminder that even our youngest citizens can make meaningful contributions towards safeguarding our environment. With Huddersfield's picturesque landscape serving as their backdrop, these determined students embarked on an adventure that would shape their understanding of environmental issues for years to come. This photograph encapsulates not only the spirit of collaboration but also highlights West Yorkshire's commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious individuals who will continue to champion sustainable practices well into the future.
