Shipyard director George Parker rose to the occasion when the new liner Queen Elizabeth

Shipyard director George Parker rose to the occasion when the new liner Queen Elizabeth II seemed reluctant to be launched. He gave her a shove and a second later the Cunarder slid down the stocks from John Browns ship yard into the River Clyde. It was a symbolic gesture, and brought a hilarious ending to the few seconds during which the new QE2 seemed reluctant to move. Nothing happened after the Queen had pressed the button to release the launching gear. 20th September 1967

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, Shipyard director George Parker takes center stage as he rises to the occasion during the launch of the magnificent liner Queen Elizabeth II. The year was 1967, and anticipation filled the air at John Browns shipyard in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. As onlookers held their breath, it seemed that the new QE2 hesitated to embark on her maiden voyage. But George Parker, donning his distinguished bowler hat, wasn't about to let a momentary reluctance dampen this historic event. With a mischievous smile and unwavering determination, he gave the colossal vessel a gentle shove. In an instant, laughter erupted from all corners as the Cunarder gracefully glided down the stocks into the glistening waters of River Clyde. It was a symbolic gesture that brought both relief and amusement to those present - a testament to human ingenuity triumphing over any hesitation. The photograph captures this unforgettable moment frozen in time - an emblematic scene representing not only technological achievement but also our indomitable spirit when faced with challenges. For within those few seconds of uncertainty before George's intervention, nothing happened after Her Majesty had pressed that button releasing launching gear. This remarkable image transports us back to an era when ocean liners were symbols of grandeur and adventure. It serves as a reminder that even in moments where machinery falters momentarily or doubts arise unexpectedly; human resolve can propel us forward towards greatness.
