The Red Arrows were in Coventry to thank the men who build the engines which have helped

The Red Arrows were in Coventry to thank the men who build the engines which have helped make them a world-famous aerobatic team. For the past 14 years the formation flying team have flown Gnat aircraft powered by the Orpheus engine, which is assembled at the Rolls Royce Ansty plant and uses componenents manufactured at the Parkside plant in Coventry. Later this year the Red Arrows are to change to the Hawk aircraft powered by the Rolls Royce Adour engine built in Derby. So the nine-man team decided to visit both Coventry plants to say a personal thankyou to the men who make the Orpheus engine. At Parkside they were presented with a set of engraved fan blades from an Orpheus engine by the director and general manager at Rolls Royce Coventry, Mr John James. He said that Rolls Royce had been proud to be associated with the airmanship, precision and self-dicipline which the team had shown. The team leader, Squadron Leader Brian Hoskins said tha the past 14 years 54 different pilots had flown with the Red Arrows and that the Coventry-built engine had always proved reliable and safe. The changeover to the Hawk will not, however, end their links with the area. Their new aircraft will be serviced and maintained at the British Aerospace plant at Bitteswell, near Lutterworth.

The Red Arrows Express Gratitude to Coventry's Engine Builders

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness a heartfelt moment as the renowned Red Arrows aerobatic team pays tribute to the skilled men behind their success. The image captures the team's visit to Coventry, where they sought to personally thank the dedicated engine builders who have played a crucial role in their journey. For an impressive 14 years, these fearless pilots soared through the skies in Gnat aircraft powered by the exceptional Orpheus engine. Assembled at Rolls Royce Ansty plant and incorporating components manufactured at Parkside plant in Coventry, this powerful combination propelled them into worldwide fame. However, change is on the horizon for these aviation virtuosos. Soon, they will transition to Hawk aircraft equipped with Rolls Royce Adour engines from Derby. Therefore, before bidding farewell to their trusted Orpheus engine, the nine-man squadron embarked on a meaningful visit to both Coventry plants. At Parkside plant, they were presented with engraved fan blades from an Orpheus engine by Mr John James - director and general manager of Rolls Royce Coventry. He expressed immense pride in his company's association with such extraordinary airmanship skills demonstrated by this remarkable team. Squadron Leader Brian Hoskins conveyed his gratitude during this touching encounter. Over those eventful 14 years, 54 different pilots had flown alongside the Red Arrows while relying on these reliable and safe engines crafted in Coventry. Although transitioning to new horizons with Hawk aircraft and British Aerospace servicing facilities near Lutterworth would mark a significant chapter for them; it is undeniable that their deep connection with Coventry will forever remain etched within their hearts.
