Two women police officers in updated uniform, London
Two female Metropolitan Police officers in their new uniforms on a London street (Beagles postcard). They are Sergeant Florence Hill and Constable Annie Matthews. The womens uniform was updated in 1931, when a white shirt and tie were introduced, the hat badge became smaller, the skirt became a little shorter, and shoes replaced boots (although in this picture the women are wearing boots). The overall effect was greater comfort, practicality and smartness. Date: circa 1931
