EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative black and white portrait graced the cover of Tatler magazine in 1914, featuring The Hon. Mrs Percy Wyndham, nee Diana Lister. A scion of the British aristocracy, Diana was the beloved daughter of Lord Ribblesdale and the late bride of Percy Wyndham, the only son of the late George Wyndham and Countess Grosvenor. Percy's half brother was the Duke of Westminster. Diana's life was marked by tragedy and heartache. In 1918, she wed Arthur Edward Boy Capel, a renowned polo player and the lover of Coco Chanel, but he was tragically killed in a car accident the following year. Three years later, in 1923, Diana married Vere Fane, the 14th Earl of Westmorland. This striking image captures the poignant beauty and resilience of a woman who endured the unimaginable losses of World War I and continued to grace society pages despite the heartache. The haunting image serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the indomitable spirit of those who lived through it.
