Queens Delight: A Rare Beauty from the American Forests This exquisite hand-colored lithograph depicts Queens Delight, or Stillingia sylvatica, a native American plant that has long held significance in herbal medicine. The botanical illustration was meticulously created by David Blair and later reproduced by Hanhart, as part of Robert Bentley and Henry Trimen's comprehensive work, "Medicinal Plants," published in London in 1880. Stillingia sylvatica, also known as American gumweed, is a perennial herb native to the eastern United States. Its striking appearance, with large, glossy, green leaves and clusters of small, white flowers, is captured in breathtaking detail in this lithograph. The plant's name, Queens Delight, is said to have originated from the belief that the leaves were a favorite food of Queen Anne's Lace, a common wildflower.
