1. Title: "Marie-Louise Therese of Savoy-Carignan (1749-1792): A Regal Portrait from the Historical Costumes of France" Marie-Louise Therese of Savoy-Carignan, born on March 23, 1749, was a prominent figure in the European aristocracy during the late 18th century. Daughter of Victor Amadeus III, Duke of Savoy, and his second wife, Anne-Catherine de Genève, Marie-Louise Therese was raised in the opulent Savoy court and later became the Princess of Lamballe in France. This handcoloured lithograph, taken from Paul Lacroix's "Costumes Historiques de la France," published in Paris in 1852 by the Administration de Librairie, offers a striking representation of Marie-Louise Therese in her regal attire. The intricate details of her dress, adorned with delicate lace and rich fabrics, reflect the elegance and sophistication of the era. Her expressive eyes and poised posture convey a sense of confidence and grace, further emphasizing her noble status. Marie-Louise Therese's life was marked by significant events in European history. In 1768, she married Louis-Marie-Anne de Bourbon, Prince of Lamballe, in a grand ceremony held in Versailles. The couple's marriage was celebrated throughout Europe, and Marie-Louise Therese became a beloved figure in French court society. However, her happiness was short-lived as her husband was executed during the French Revolution in 1792. Marie-Louise Therese herself was imprisoned and eventually died in the Convent of Sainte-Claire in Paris on July 14, 1792. This evocative image of Marie-Louise Therese serves as a poignant reminder of the opulence and intrigue of the European aristocracy during the late 18th century. The intricate details of her attire, combined with her regal bearing, transport us back in time to an era of grandeur and elegance, forever etched in history.
