Step back in time with this evocative photograph of the Prince Alfred Public House in Hackney, London, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken in 1936, captures the charming facade of the pub, with its ornate brickwork and distinctive signage. The Prince Alfred was a beloved local watering hole, a place where friends gathered over a pint and stories were shared. Sadly, this historic pub was not destined to last. In September 1940, during the height of World War II, the Prince Alfred was destroyed in an air raid. The back of the print, available upon request, bears the somber reminder of its fate: "Nothing for the Prince Alfred, Hackney, London E8 1DN. As of July 2018." The Prince Alfred was once a proud part of the Charrington and Company Limited empire, a name synonymous with London's pub scene in the thirties.
