The date on the note is August 22, 1923. During this time, the German economy was plagued by rampant inflation, which rendered the currency virtually worthless. The Weimar Republic's economic crisis was a result of several factors, including the aftermath of World War I, reparations payments, and the excessive printing of money to finance the government's spending. The value of the Mark plummeted, leading to the infamous "Trillion Mark Note," as seen in this print.
