EDITORS COMMENTS
In this intriguing print from 1936, we see a fascinating trio at the newly opened Merry go Round cocktail bar in Paris. Gilbert Ramognie, once the secretary of notorious French swindler Serge Stravinsky, has now embarked on a different venture as the owner of this establishment. After spending almost two years behind bars and being acquitted of receiving stolen money charges, Ramognie seems to have turned his life around. Joining him is Madame Romagnino, formerly known as Celia Nano, a London dancer who was questioned by Scotland Yard officials during the Stravinskys case. Her presence adds an air of mystery and glamour to the bar's ambiance. Standing tall at the entrance is Henry Voix, who served as Stravinsky's companion during those tumultuous times. Together with Ramognie and Madame Romagnino, they form an unlikely but captivating team running this new hotspot just off Champs Elysees. This photograph captures their camaraderie and determination to move forward despite their past associations. It serves as a reminder that people can reinvent themselves and find success even after facing adversity. Taken in black and white, it exudes a timeless quality that transports us back to an era between wars when Europe was undergoing significant social changes.
