Pythagoras monument

Monument to Pythagoras. Monument to the Greek philosopher Pythagoras (about 580-496 B.C.) in the harbour of Pythagorio, Samos, Greece. The monument is of Pythagoras as part of a right- angle triangle. Pythagoras taught that the squared hypotenuse length of a right-angle triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. This is known as Pythagoras theorem and it is for this that he is best known. As well as being a philosopher and a mathematician, Pythagoras was also an astronomer. He taught that the Earth was spherical, and that the morning and evening stars were the planet Venus

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Pythagoras monument, located in the picturesque harbour of Pythagorio, Samos, Greece. The monument pays tribute to the renowned Greek philosopher and mathematician, Pythagoras (about 580-496 B. C. ), who revolutionized geometry with his famous theorem. The statue depicts Pythagoras as an integral part of a right-angle triangle, symbolizing his groundbreaking discovery that the squared hypotenuse length is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. This fundamental principle, known as Pythagoras' theorem, remains one of his most significant contributions to mathematics. Beyond his mathematical prowess, Pythagoras was also an esteemed astronomer. He believed in a spherical Earth and identified Venus as both the morning and evening star—a remarkable insight for his time.
