EDITORS COMMENTS
Jonathan Plant and James Henshaw, two young boys with big dreams of becoming policemen, proudly donned their miniature helmets for a special occasion. The Quarry Hill Playgroup and Mothers and Toddlers had organized a sponsored build-a-brick event to raise funds for play equipment. Joined by their friend Danielle Bostock, the trio was among 24 enthusiastic children who eagerly participated in this charitable endeavor. The event took place at the picturesque St Michael and St Helens Church in Almondbury on the 4th of February 1987. As they carefully stacked bricks one by one, these little builders were not only creating structures but also building hope for a brighter future for both groups. Dressed up in hats that symbolized authority and bravery, Jonathan, James, Danielle, and their fellow participants showcased the true spirit of childhood innocence mixed with an unwavering determination to make a difference. Their smiles radiated joy as they worked together towards a common goal. This heartwarming snapshot from the 1980s captures the essence of charity work during that era – where children actively engaged in fundraising activities while having fun along the way. It serves as a reminder that even small acts can have significant impacts when done collectively. Today, this print stands as a testament to youthful enthusiasm and community support. It is an enduring memory of how these children selflessly contributed towards enhancing playtime experiences for themselves and others.
