NEWS 28/10/2009 *** David Shepherd, the former England umpire, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.
A renowned international umpire, David officiated in 172 ODI s, including 3 consecutive World Cup Finals & 92 tests between 1983 & 2005.

David Shepherd - Englands member of the 12 strong National Grid Panel of umpires for the World Cup 1996, starting nexk week in India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka - today modelled the first black coat to be worn by an umpire in two centuries of cricket.
Black has been chosen as the best neutral colour for day/night matches with the players wearing coloured clothing and using a white ball.

Sadly, after a valiant battle with cancer, Shepherd passed away at the age of 68. Renowned for his exceptional skills as an international umpire, Shepherd officiated in an impressive total of 172 One Day Internationals (ODIs), including three consecutive World Cup Finals. Additionally, he presided over 92 tests between the years 1983 and 2005.
