EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the United States Air Force's (USAF) Kaman HH-43F Huskie helicopter with the serial number 59-1544 (msn 25), assigned to Detachment 14 of the 42nd Aerospace Rescue Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base. Originally built as an HH-43B, this helicopter underwent conversion to the HH-43F configuration and was allotted to Detachment 14 in 1961. After its military service, the helicopter was disposed of to the Military Assistance and Sales Disposition Center (MASDC) on March 15, 1973, and sold on June 15, 1974, to the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources, where it was registered as N321WN. In 1984, Pyramid Oil Co, operating under Moseley Aviation, purchased the helicopter and restored it to fly once again. However, on January 9, 1995, during an aerial application flight near Glendale, Arizona, the HH-43F collided with a tree and crashed into a field. Although the aircraft was substantially damaged, the pilot miraculously escaped injury. This photograph, taken circa 1961, captures the HH-43F in its prime, showcasing the versatility and resilience of the Kaman Huskie helicopter in the United States Air Force.
