EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a replica of the ancient Egyptian statue of the goddess Isis, as preserved in Rome's Capitoline Museum. The statue, dating back to the Greco-Roman period, depicts Isis holding a sistrum, an ancient musical instrument, and an oenochoe, a traditional Egyptian wine jug. Isis, the goddess of motherhood, magic, and fertility, is often depicted holding these symbols of her domains. The print is a beautiful example of the intricate detail and craftsmanship of the time, with the goddess's intricately carved headdress, adorned with the solar disk and horns of Hathor, and her serene expression. The sistrum, a rattle with metal jingles, is shown in her left hand, while the oenochoe, a large, two-handled jug, is held in her right. The jug's intricate decorations and the goddess's flowing robes add to the overall sense of grandeur and elegance. This print was created as part of the "Il Museo Capitolino" series, published by Pietro Paolo Montagnani-Mirabili in Rome in 1820. The series aimed to document and preserve the artistic and historical treasures of the Capitoline Museum, one of the oldest public museums in the world. The print was produced using the copperplate engraving technique, with the illustration by A. Tofanelli and the engraving by Giacomo Bossi. The resulting image is a stunning representation of the ancient Egyptian civilization and its rich artistic heritage.
