This chromolithograph showcases seven exquisite varieties of Chinese primroses, or Primula sinensis, as depicted by renowned Belgian botanical artist Pieter de Pannemaeker for Jean Linden's Horticole Illustration in Brussels, 1884. The Chinese primrose is a popular and beloved flower for its vibrant colors and delicate blooms. The first variety, Swanley Red, boasts rich, deep red petals with contrasting yellow throats. Princess Beatrice, the second, displays elegant pink petals with a white center. Swanley Purple, as the name suggests, boasts deep purple petals with a yellow blotch at the base. The fourth variety, Princess of Wales, is a stunning white primrose with a pink blotch at the base of each petal. The fifth, The Queen, is a beautiful white primrose with a pink edge on each petal.
