Born on September 30, 1878, in Galveston, Texas, Johnson defied racial and societal norms by dominating the boxing world during the early 1900s. Johnson's boxing career began in the late 1890s, and he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a formidable contender in the heavyweight division.
